EB1 Green Card Success with Manj from the Legendary Bhangra Band
The RDB Legend Continues. Every so often we get an exciting celebrity client who we are thrilled to represent before US Immigration. One of those clients is Manjeet from the world-famous band RDB – Rhythm Dhol Bass. Because we had previously worked with him on securing his O1 Visa, we were especially eager to help him get his US Green Card.
Along with building an impressive musical career and receiving a large amount of critical acclaim and fame, Manjeet has collaborated with other global superstars like Snoop Dog, Ludacris, and 50 Cent.
Manjeet won a Canadian Screen Award for his original song “Dal Makhani,” and US Immigration decided that this achievement alone was enough evidence of extraordinary ability to merit an EB1 Green Card. Wow! We are so excited to share his EB1 success story.
Tell me about where you are from and a little bit about what you do.
My name is Manjeet and I was born in the UK and raised in the UK until 23, at which time I decided to marry and moved out to Canada in 2002. I am the lead singer and producer for a band called RDB (Rhythm Dhol Bass) that started back in 1999, and I am now officially known as Manj Musik as a solo artist.
How did you work your way up the ranks to reach your level and what were some of the challenges along the way.
After moving over to Canada, it was a great move as I got to collaborate and connect with some amazing US-based mainstream artists such as Ludacris, Snoop Dogg, Tpain, etc. It was these collaborations that got me to build the bridge between the USA and India, which is where the core of my work is.
Have you ever lived in the US before? If so, under what circumstances? If not, what aroused your interest in a move to the US?
I have never lived in the US but due to so many opportunities opening up, it was only right to apply and try and get my EB1 and move over.
How did you decide to pursue an EB1?
The Law Offices of Chris M. Ingram has always been my go-to firm for all of my visa needs, and I remember years ago I was lucky enough to have a O1 visa approved for 5 years thru Chris. They are amazing to work with and due to their success with me in the past, it was only right to apply for the EB1 with them.
What was your experience with the EB1 petition process?
The experience was amazing as it was so smooth and the online system helped so much. Each individual is amazing to work with and really do understand all the questions you throw at them.
What were some of the challenges you had to work on in the preparation of your case, for example evidence gathering?
Collecting evidence initially was not really the challenge but when the officer requested more evidence on certain subjects, this got a little tricky. But my allocated attorney did an amazing job of actually researching more evidence for me – even I was surprised at what he was able to find.
What kind of relationship did/do you have with Chris and his team?
I have an amazing relationship with Chris because of our history but since the filing, I have really got to know most of his team and see a very family type of atmosphere, which is soothing to know.
What were you doing when you found out you were approved? What was your immediate reaction? How did/will you celebrate?
LOL – I was sitting in Mumbai in a meeting and I received a call. Unfortunately I was unable to answer but when I heard the voicemail, “Hi Manjeet, it’s Chris Ingram’s Office, you might want to call us back,” I jumped for joy and called my wife instantly.
What are you looking forward to most about moving to the US?
Opportunities, Weather, Friends….everything, really. I have been travelling into the States for so long now, it was only time before I was going to move there.
What will you miss the most about your home country?
Well I moved out of the UK 15 years ago and I’m not missing that at all…lol but I will miss Canada. The good thing is Canada is right next door and so easy to fly back and forth so I wont miss my friends and family too much.
What advice would you give to any immigrant considering an EB1 or who is already in the process?
I would say you definitely need to go with The Law offices of Chris M. Ingram as they are the BEST!! Secondly, I would say collect double the amount of evidence and when submitting, try and give them more that what they need.
