The Interview

Tell me about where you are from and a little bit about your career and what you do.

My name is Mark. I am from Sao Paulo, Brazil.

I’m a singer, songwriter, musician and producer who has been working in the music and advertising industry for more than a decade. I belong to the cast of composers and songwriters of Warner Chappell. I’m also a BMI member. My songs were licensed and published by Warner, Pump Audio, Pacifica Music, Pig Factory, Copa Music and El Shadday in Latin and North America.

Have you ever lived in the US before? If so, under what circumstances? If not, what aroused your interest in a move to the US?

I lived in New York and Los Angeles.

Actually, I was part of the roster of Grit PR, a promotion company that became my sponsor in the US when I applied for an O1 Visa in 2012.

How did you decide to pursue an EB1?

After the O1 Visa, I’ve decided that it was the perfect time to pursue something more definitive, in order to take my career to the next level in the US.

What was your experience with the EB1 petition process?

It was great. There are a lot of steps setting up a considerable amount of documents. Everything has to be discussed and it is important to be organized and detailed-oriented. But, I must say the team is extremely committed and very supportive.

What were some of the challenges you had to work on in the preparation of your case, for example evidence gathering?

The fact I already had worked on my O1 Visa helped me to gather and organize some of the evidences. With that said, I had to be extremely focused in order to put all the pieces together. I think now I really understand the meaning of the expression “irrefutable evidences”.

What kind of relationship did/do you have Chris and his team?

Chris and the team really took the process to a much higher level in terms of how detailed and organized we have to be in order to achieve the goal. They were always there to answer my questions, being extremely supportive and committed to say the least.

What were you doing when you found out you were approved? What was your immediate reaction? How did/will you celebrate?

I was in the studio recording some music, when the telephone rang. I think I’ll never forget. It was a great sensation, and of course, there was some wine involved after that.

What are you looking forward to most about moving to the US?

I’m looking forward to taking my career to the next level.

What will you miss the most about your home country?

People… some good friends and relatives. Well, the food is also great.

What advice would you give to any immigrant considering an EB1 or who is already in the process?

Be organized and driven. Be creative. Believe in yourself. END.

Allison, again thank you so much for taking the time to sharing your amazing journey for our readers.

Now Its Your Turn
