F1 M1 Student Guide – Part 2 – Enrollment
F1 / M1 Student Visas
Enroll in Your U.S. Education with F-1/M-1 Visas
Secure Your Spot with Expert Guidance
Welcome to Part 2 of the Law Offices of Chris M. Ingram’s Student Visa Guide! We’re excited to guide you through enrolling in U.S. colleges with F-1 (academic) or M-1 (vocational) visas, ensuring your path to a world-class education is smooth and successful.
Work with Designated School Officials
Accredited colleges have a Designated School Official (DSO) or Principal DSO (PDSO) to assist international students. These officials are your key contacts for enrollment questions and the acceptance process, except during campus tours. They’ll guide you through every step to secure your spot.
Qualify for Full-Time Programs
F-1 and M-1 visas require enrollment in full-time courses (at least 12 hours per week per semester, depending on the program). Most state and private universities offering Bachelor’s or postgraduate programs qualify. Unsure if your course meets requirements? Your DSO will confirm eligibility.
Prepare Your Application
To enroll, submit to the DSO:
-
A credential evaluation report to verify your qualifications.
-
Proof of financial support for tuition, living expenses, and books (e.g., bank statements, tax returns).
Example Costs (John Smith Community State College):
| Tuition and Fees | $8,500.00 |
| Living Expenses | $14,000.00 |
| Books | $900.00 |
| Total | $23,400.00 |
Our team ensures your financial documentation meets college and visa standards.
Secure Your I-20 Form
Once accepted, the college issues an I-20 (Certificate of Eligibility for Nonimmigrant Student Status), essential for your F-1 or M-1 visa application. We’ll work closely with you, using your completed General Client Questionnaire (GCQ) and supporting documents to prepare a robust visa application for USCIS or the U.S. Embassy.
Navigate the Embassy Process
Submit your visa application at a U.S. Embassy (e.g., London). Interviews may occur immediately or require a follow-up visit, as embassy policies vary. Call ahead to confirm procedures, and we’ll help you prepare for a seamless experience.
