E2 Visa – Douglas and Tracy – Cleaning Business

E2 Visa - Douglas and Tracy - Cleaning Biz

E2 Visa – Douglas and Tracy – Cleaning Biz

When Douglas first contacted me, he was practically shivering down the phone from a very cold Scotland in the middle of winter, then he began telling me about his dream of moving to very hot Scottsdale, Arizona, talk about extremes. Incidentally, both Douglas and Tracey had great careers, but I guess after many years in a cold environment you just need to thaw out someplace. I totally get, as I moved from Northampton, England to sunny California and its completely different – fantastic. To be honest it was worth moving just for the great weather. Anyway – here is Doug and Tracy’s story.

Scottsdale, Arizona Baby!!!

Scottsdale, Arizona Baby!!!

Tell us about where you are from and a little bit about the entities of your business.

Our business is a cleaning/Maid Service covering Scottsdale and surrounding area. Its a franchise. The franchise company has been around for over 30yrs. We are from Scotland in the United Kingdom

Have you ever lived in the US before? If so, under what circumstances? If not, what aroused your interest in a move to the US?

Until we arrived here in May 2014 we had not lived in the U.S. before. Although we had owned a condo in Scottsdale for 10yrs taking our family vacations here twice a year and we knew the area well.

How did you decide to pursue an E2 Visa?

The reason we thought about moving out to Scottsdale was we loved the area, we loved the weather and we hated our winters back home they are so long dark and wet. As we got older it got more difficult to handle the winters. This prompted our interest to see if its was possible to make a more permanent move out here.

It just seemed like the best way for us to gain entry to the U.S. By investing in a business of our choice we have the opportunity to control our own way of life and leisure time as we grow the business we hope this will lead to us still being involved in the business but being able to take a bit of a step back and enjoy the lifestyle that we came here for.

What was your experience with the E2 Visa process? Did you ever consider giving up? What was your motivation to keep pressing on?

We found the e2 visa process overall a good one. Once we had made our commitment to this process we never thought about quitting. We did wonder if we could pull the whole process off, but never thought about stopping at any point.

Our relationship with Chris and the team was great. Never once did I feel that they were not all pulling for our case. Although Chris is very particular about how he puts his cases together and he never lets the standard slip. This shows in the results that he gets for his clients time and time again.

What was your immediate reaction upon being approved at the U.S embassy by the adjudicating officer? How did you celebrate?

Stunned. Even as we went through the process at the London embassy and despite all the assurance from Chris and the team. You still worry that you might not be approved. Chris had told us to expect an initial 2 yr visa. But we got a 5 year visa and I can only put that down to the great case that was put together. Leaving the officer at the embassy in no doubt that we deserved the chance to let our business grow over a 5yr period. I think it took a few days for it all to sink in. No real massive celebration just dinner with our family.

What are you looking forward to most about your move to the US?

The weather. Its a huge one for us. To have the shorts and t shirt way of life will be fantastic as the climate in Scottsdale is great all year round.

What do you think you will miss the most when you leave your home abroad?

Family and friends. My eldest daughter who is 23 is staying back in the U.K  as she has a teaching job. we will really miss her. FaceTime and modern technology will be a big help with that but theres nothing like the real thing.

What advice would you give to any immigrant considering starting the E2 Visa application or who is already in the process?

Follow the process that Chris lays down for you and you wont go wrong. It can seem like a lot of work that you have to do and a ton of items to put together, but at the end of the day his record speaks for itself. He does not want a case not going through as it has an impact on his reputation.
