EB1 – Angela, Horticulturalist – UK

Horticulturalist Grows A Truly Extraordinary Career: One of the best parts of our job is getting to meet truly extraordinary people who have amazing talents in their respective fields. One of these people was Angela, an award winning Florist and Horticulturalist who has worked her craft for famous clients like Paul McCartney, Burberry, the show Downton Abbey, Disney’s Maleficent and many more. And, one of the best parts of this extraordinary career is that Angela started in the floral industry at just 16, and worked her way up to teaching and owning several of her own floral businesses. Wow! We wish her all the best.

Tell me about where you are from and a little bit about what you do.

I am from London in the UK, and my husband and myself are in the Floral Industry. We are a very niche type of business as we freeze -Dry Botanicals. We have been in the flower industry for 30 years. We are at the cutting edge of the flower industry providing very unusual floral products, producing freeze- dried flowers that will last for years but still look and feel fresh.

How did you work your way up the ranks to reach your level and what were some of the challenges along the way.

I started work in the flower industry at 16 years of age. Working my way up over the years to teaching standard until I owned several of my own floral businesses. I went onto win a “Gold Medal” award at a major Horticultural Event. I’ve created flowers for so many high-end events, and our clients ranged from Prime Minister to events attended by the Royal family, to London fashion week and Burberry, Downton Abbey & many Blockbuster films & TV adverts. Supplying freeze -dried floral displays to many celebrities and to thousands of brides to be. The challenges have been to try & be adaptable and innovative in our approach and most importantly to us, to give everyone of our customers a great service.

Have you ever lived in the US before? If so, under what circumstances? If not, what aroused your interest in a move to the US?

We have visited the US many times and have loved the people we have met along the way. We have made many friends over the years and are looking forward to the next chapter in our life for us and our family. We hope to be part of a community, and to feel like we really belong in the US. We are looking forward to finally putting down some roots in the States.

How did you decide to pursue an EB1?

We decided to pursue the EB1 visa after talking firstly with Chris & then Lindsey Blue on the phone. We discussed our past experiences and if we met the criteria for that type of visa application. We felt that the EB1 Visa would give our family more security and a long-term plan.

What was your experience with the EB1 petition process?

We have found the EB1 petition process very time consuming. You have to be persistent as you have to try and back up all of your claims with signed evidence. Our EB1 case involved going back over 30 years and getting people to send letters and references. This can be very challenging and frustrating. You need to be persistent. The team at Chris Ingram’s offices were so helpful and we felt they lead us along the way with great determination, especially Tanya and Kostas, so we would like to give them a big thank you for that.

What were some of the challenges you had to work on in the preparation of your case, for example evidence gathering?

We found it quite difficult to get together all of our past evidence but found that if you don’t give up and keep going you can get to the final goal, the approval for the EB1 Visa. In our case 30 years is a long career to remember. Still thinking of things now that I missed out. Many sleepless nights were spent thinking and with my brain whirling with thoughts.

What kind of relationship did/do you have Chris and his team?

We found the whole team very professional, calm, and we can really recommend their services. We thought it was so thoughtful when each of the team emailed us with congratulations and individual kind comments the day after we received our EB1 visa approval.

What were you doing when you found out you were approved? What was your immediate reaction? How did/will you celebrate?

Watching the TV with my family when Lindsey called. My immediate reaction was shock and relief in equal measures. We called up all our family and friends and told them & texted them throughout the evening. We celebrated late into the night along with a bottle of Champagne. We are planning to have a special meal out later this week.

What are you looking forward to most about moving to the US?

We are looking forward to the new challenge of starting a new business in the USA. It will be a fresh start for our young family, and us. Of course the sunny weather in California will be big bonus along with its wonderful people.

What will you miss the most about your home country?

I will miss our friends and our family as they are elderly but they have been very supportive of our move to the USA. I’m sure they will love to visit for holidays.

What advice would you give to any immigrant considering an EB1 or who is already in the process?

Don’t give up even when you have doubts about yourself or your EB1 case. Trust the people who are helping you with your visa. Have lots of confidence in yourself and your own abilities.
