Business Intelligence Leader: Alok’s EB1 Success

Business Intelligence and Analytics – For Alok and his family America provided opportunities for career growth in their respective fields. However, the immigration process was fraught with many challenges and several visa options were considered before finally deciding on an EB1. Working with the Law Offices of Chris M. Tell me about where you are from and a little bit about what you do?

I am a Software Engineer with over 20 years of experience. I started my career as a software developer in India way back in 2002. I moved to the US in 2010 after spending a couple of years in Australia and have since been in leadership roles like Senior Engineering Manager, Director of Engineering etc in leading software companies. Currently I am working as Sr. Director – Business Intelligence and Analytics.

Why do you want to live in America? What’s so special about America?

I came to America in 2010 after spending a few years in Sydney, Australia. My initial plan was to spend a few years and then return to India. However the opportunities available in the software and data engineering fields were enormous. The kids were settled into school and made lots of friends. My better half started working on H4-EAD in her field.  All the circumstances made us decide to explore America more and to eventually settle and live here.

What was your visa choice and how did you come to that decision?

I came here on an L2 Visa which was later converted to an H1 to take the advantage of extension beyond 6 years.  My previous employers applied for a green card in EB-2 in 2015. Unfortunately there are extreme delays for Indian nationals to get a GC under EB-2 which forced me to explore other options. I explored EB5 initially, then considered going out of the America for 1 year to get qualified under EB1C. I am lucky that I also asked Chris and his team to evaluate my profile to determine if I was qualified for an EB1. The outcome was positive.

How would you describe your experience in working with us?

There were some initial hiccups but Chris and his team solved those promptly. I got to work with Adriana and she was amazing with the details and ideas about how to move forward. She managed to bring the case back on track. I was able to get an I-140 petition approved in 6 months from start to finish which is an excellent timeline considering all the paperwork involved. Adriana also found some credentials from my profile to showcase which I initially thought may not be worthy. It was a good experience overall.

What were some of the evidence challenges you had to work on in the preparation of your case?

Luckily I was able to get all the evidence quickly for all of my categories as I was already preparing for this. However putting the evidence into the right format and wording was challenging. This part took most of the nights and weekends to get those lengthy documents ready. Unfortunately I got an RFE. Thankfully Chris & his team were able to turn it around for a positive outcome.

What were you doing when you found out you were approved? What was your immediate reaction? How did/will you celebrate?

I was in a meeting at work when I received the message from USCIS that there was a change in my petition status.  I checked online and saw that the petition was approved. I could not believe it. I sent an email to Chris’ team and they confirmed that they received the fax one day before but waited to change the status online. I called my wife at her work to let her know. It was a life changing moment. We celebrated with friends over the weekend.

Would you recommend your family and friends and why?

100%. The process is smooth and every person in Chris’ team works to get the approval and keep the customer happy. I have already recommended Chris and his team to a few of my friends who are also in the EB2 queue.
