Tell me about where you are from and a little bit about your career and what you do.

I’m a Kenyan born English citizen who currently lives in Australia! It’s a long story! I’ve been in hospitality and the liquor industry all my working life and have pushed myself up through the ranks over the years. I am now the Director of Sweet&Chilli USA which is the American division of a global event management and drink’s industry specialist agency.

What made you want to relocate to America – what was the main driving force?

The move to America was prompted by the unbelievable opportunity afforded to me by this role. Sweet&Chilli has very strong global business and a move to the USA was inevitable. It arrived at the perfect moment in my career and as such, was too good an opportunity to turn down.

How did discover the E2 Visa?

My journey to the E2 visa option was straightforward. The owners of the business both carry E2’s and it makes perfect sense for me to be on the same visa. The beauty of it is that it’s a 5yr visa and can be renewed an unlimited number of times.

What was the main reason why you chose the Law Offices of Chris M. Ingram?

Again, this is straightforward! The owners of the business had used the Law Offices of Chris M. Ingram and found them to be thorough, efficacious, value for money, courteous and ultimately successful! Those are the ingredients required for repeat custom, great word-of-mouth referral and of course glowing feedback like this!

What was your experience with us going through the E2 petition process?

The Law Offices of Chris M. Ingram made the process clear, communicated regularly, responded quickly and drove the process forward. My application just so happened to coincide with the Christmas Holiday period adding a layer of difficulty. However, the petition process with the Law Offices of Chris M. Ingram continued through the holidays without any significant delays. I’ve been very impressed and pleased with the end to end process and of course, I’m thrilled to have my visa approved, paving the way for the next chapter of my life and work.

What were some of the challenges you had to work on in the preparation of your case, for example evidence gathering?

In any visa application, there is a certain amount of preparatory work that needs to happen. Some of it is easy and some of it takes more time. The Law Offices of Chris M. Ingram supported me right through the process. Luckily for me, I had recently gone through an Australian permanent residency process, so much of the required evidence gathering etc was easily at hand and only required tailoring for my E2 application.

What kind of relationship did you have the team members working your cases?

I’ve found it to be genuine and friendly. I had a sense that the team at the Law Offices of Chris M. Ingram have a real desire to help people like myself realize either their dreams or professional goals. As with everyone in my situation, the biggest barrier in achieving those goals is permission to live and work in the USA. I felt that my case team genuinely were working to help me realize my dreams and goals. I won’t forget that. It makes this process so much less daunting to know that my team is in my corner fighting for me.

What were you doing when you found out you were approved? What was your immediate reaction? How did/will you celebrate?

John’s Visa gets approved!

I was on the 59th floor of the US Consulate building in central Sydney. The view of Sydney Harbour is spectacular. It was a typically warm, sunny day and rather than jump for joy, I found myself asking what hell am I doing!! Sydney is such a beautiful city and the view from the US Consulate just reminds you of that!! Not fair!! However, once I’d descended back down to the ground floor, I made a heartfelt Facebook post about my newly approved visa which has gotten more than 300 likes. Not bad!

What are you looking forward to most about moving to the US?

A fresh, new challenge! I’ve always loved America and its people and I fell in love with Los Angeles years ago, so everything is looking up!

What will you miss the most about your home country?

Urrrgghh!! Almost everything!! The weather, my friends, the wonderful daily routine I’ve built up and the strides I’ve made in a personal mission to improve my health and wellbeing. Sydney is one of the world’s greatest cities and a part of it will stay with me forever. That said, the flight to and from Sydney and LA is easy and my job (with HQ’s in London, Sydney and LA) will have me returning to Sydney and London several times per year. So, I will get to enjoy my three favourite cities and all my closest friends more frequently than for years!

What advice would you give to any immigrant considering an E2 or who is already in the process?

Do sweat the small stuff. The devil is in the detail. And….Big Brother is watching! Don’t put anything on your social channels about what you’re doing until it’s done 100%! You don’t want something like that to get in the way of your dreams and goals.

What particular thing do you think you have going for you that you think will help you to be successful?

Passion is key for me. If you love what you do, you never work a day in your life. I haven’t worked for 20yrs! I’m blessed to have worked all over the world (64 countries to be precise) and my drive and ambition hasn’t wavered once. I get up every morning excited for the new challenges ahead. I try not to look back at the mistakes or stresses of yesterday, as they will only hinder the opportunities that lie ahead of me. I listen well and work hard to be truly “present” in any meeting or situation. I also have a knack for making, building and maintaining personal relationships all over the world. This network has helped me exponentially in landing this new role as in my business it realty is who you know!
