Pari’s Story
Tell me about where you are from and a little bit about your career and what you do.
I am from Delhi, India. I am a professional Kathak dance artist. Kathak is an Indian classical dance from the northern India. I started my career as a dancer when I was very young. I have performed all over India and many other countries around the world. Along with being a performer, I am also a choreographer and have presented many of my original creations. Currently I am the Artistic Director and Kathak teacher at Anila Sinha Foundation in Illinois.
Have you ever lived in the US before? If so, under what circumstances? If not, what aroused your interest in a move to the US?
I had the opportunity to visit the US many times in the past due of my dance performances. I used to travel with my Guruji (teacher), the legendary Kathak dancer, Pandit Birju Maharaj. I have performed in the US at many places from east coast to west coast and have also held many Kathak workshops for students in the US. During my visits I was very impressed by the lifestyle here. The people were very good, honest and rule-following. The social system made life easy and comfortable. There are a lot of opportunities available for those who have the drive and are willing to work hard. I have always dreamed of settling down in the US.
How did you decide to pursue an EB1?
I am working in Chicago for an Indian dance school since year 2005. I was on a P3 visa which I had to renew each year. In these 10 years I taught many students. Many other dance schools in different states and countries have invited me for dance workshops and performances. But because of my visa status, I was not able to accept these invitations or travel internationally. I then decided to apply for an EB1 visa which would allow me to grow personally and to share my knowledge and expertise with a wider audience.
What was your experience with the EB1 petition process?
After a lot of searching for a long time for a reliable and reputable Immigration lawyer I found the Law Offices of Chris M. Ingram. And now I know that my decision to work with this firm was the best decision I made. I must say, the entire team working for my EB1 visa was very professional, prompt and helpful. Since the day I started my EB1 processing, everything went very smoothly. I got clear guidance from the team members, starting with Lindsey Blue when she explained the whole process to me, Chris M. Ingram, Leslee Williams, Alicia Martinez, Erika Carlin and Kostas Moros guided me at every step. All the instructions and communications were very clear and timely, making it easy for me to gather all my documents and submit my paperwork on time.
What were some of the challenges you had to work on in the preparation of your case, for example evidence gathering?
Fortunately I had most of the evidence documents with me. Due to the clear instructions I got about what evidence I needed for the different categories I was able to gather the remaining documents. I didn’t have any problems at all in getting all the evidence needed.
What kind of relationship did/do you have Chris and his team?
All the members in the team were very efficient and professional. The website is very clear and helpful. After reading the success stories and talking to Lindsey, I was able to confidently decide to use this law firm. Though I had to deal with many different people at each stage, the whole process was seamless because each member knew their job well and did it efficiently and promptly. They all seemed to take a personal interest in my case making me feel that I was in good hands. I am so thankful to Chris and the whole team. They helped me to get my EB1 visa and make my dream come true!
What were you doing when you found out you were approved? What was your immediate reaction? How did/will you celebrate?
When I got the news, I was heading out to teach my dance class, I had just pulled my car out onto my driveway when I got the call from Kostas that my EB1 was approved, I can’t express my feelings in words. Oh my god, at first I couldn’t believe it, I was in tears. It was a very relieving moment that my long awaited wish had come true. Then I call my friends, and my uncle to give them the good news. When I went to my dance class, I was so happy and couldn’t stop smiling. My students were asking me, “What happened you are so happy?” That evening I celebrated with two of my best friends, Medha and Kamalji, at Lou Malnatis’s Pizza (Chicago’s famous deep dish style).
What are you looking forward to most about moving to the US?
I am looking forward to having the freedom to travel and perform all over the US and different countries. I want to expand my student group and teach in many different states. Eventually, I would like to start my own dance school in the US.
What will you miss the most about your home country?
I grew up in India; all my childhood memories are there and I will miss it. But as they say, where you live becomes your home. Since I have spent so many years here in the US, I feel at home here.
What advice would you give to any immigrant considering an EB1 or who is already in the process?
I would say your search for a good immigration attorney firm has ended here at Law Offices of Chris M. Ingram. You are in good hands. Just trust them. They know their job.
