EB1 – Sachin – Digital Project Lead / Energy
Sachin worked hard on his masters degree. He worked equally hard on his career; advancing from structural engineer to a Departmental Manager then finally returning back to his digital passion. Then Sachin waited. He waited some more. The firm he worked for had filed his visa application and ten years of patience resulted in annual extensions on his visa status and an expensive toll on his bank account. Sachin then decided enough was enough and his research lead him to the Law Offices of Chris M. Ingram and finally a green card. Sometimes impatience is a virtue! Read on for another inspiring success story.

Tell me about where you are from and a little bit about what you do.
I’m from Mumbai, India and I work for an oil and gas company in the US as a Digital Project Lead.
How did you work your way up the ranks to reach your level and what were some of the challenges along the way?
I did my masters in Texas. I started off as a structural engineer and made my way up to Departmental Manager. Then within the same industry I moved over to digital which was more in line with my studies.
Have you ever lived in the US before? If so, under what circumstances? If not, what aroused your interest in a move to the US?
I like the education system in America as you get more exposure to the technologies. Also, the industry is much more open with more opportunities to go up the ladder.
How did you decide to pursue an EB1?
My green card was filed for more than a decade by the company I worked for. The firm’s application was rejected several times and my visa was extended one year at a time, which was very scary and expensive. I began looking into other options. I wasn’t sure if I was eligible for an EB1 as I was under the impression you needed a PhD. My wife discovered breakthroughusa.com and was able to confirm that the testimonials were from real people with real success stories. When I had my consultation they made it sound possible, but they were also very upfront about the work that needed to be done. It felt good to have hope.
What was your experience with the EB1 petition process?
The first year was very trying as nothing happened due to staff changes. However, once I was assigned a new caseworker, things turned around and everything was very good.
What were some of the challenges you had to work on in the preparation of your case, for example evidence gathering?
It was more of a mental challenge than anything else. Especially getting the reference letters.
What kind of relationship did/do you have Chris and his team?
It was a good relationship. I liked the weekly updates, and they were always willing to talk over the phone as well.
What were you doing when you found out you were approved? What was your immediate reaction? How did/will you celebrate?
When my EB1 was approved the anxiety and stress built up over a decade were immediately gone. We went out for a celebratory dinner that day.
What are you looking forward to most about moving to the US?
The people in Houston are great. There are so many different cultures there too. Great vacation spots to visit around the US and the culture is very open.
What will you miss the most about your home country?
My parents. They can only visit so often. I also miss the energy of the crowds in Mumbai.
What advice would you give to any immigrant considering an EB1 or who is already in the process?
Try various options. They may be difficult, but they are achievable. I lost 5-6 years worrying about my situation before looking. You never know, you may be successful too.
