Building Your Career and Moving to the United States – Tracy had a 20 year career in the tourism and hospitality business, and a desire to relocate to the United States she never thought that should would actually qualify for the EB1 Visa for Aliens of Extraordinary Ability. During her search for immigration options, she looked into a variety of visas but only considered the EB1 Green Card after speaking with our office. Tracy had an extremely strong case from the get-go as her years of experience left her with impressive accolades and recommendations from others in the field. We are extremely delighted that Tracy was able to secure her EB1 Green Card with our assistance and we wish her the best!

Tell me about where you are from and a little bit about what you do.

I am from Scotland in the UK and I have been in hospitality and tourism for over 20 years. I have mainly been in Marketing, Sales and Business Development Roles in luxury hotel brands. I have opened, re-positioned and built teams at hotels. I love this industry it is so diverse, and I get the opportunity to meet so many wonderful people.

How did you work your way up the ranks to reach your level and what were some of the challenges along the way.

I started as a junior receptionist in a small hotel in my hometown and worked my way up through every department within a hotel. I loved tourism and although that was never my chosen career path it was one I fell into and as they say the rest is history! The only challenges I felt were deciding what direction I wanted to go in. Whether it was an operational role or a business development/strategy role, so I decided that I needed to try both and was a hotel manager for a while so I could understand the operational side and found out it was not the path for me, and instead I would remain in a more strategic role.

Have you ever lived in the US before? If so, under what circumstances? If not, what aroused your interest in a move to the US?

I have never lived in the USA. I have vacationed in the USA since I was 13 and I have a small amount of family on the west coast and that is where my love affair with the USA began. I have travelled in to the USA now on many many occasions and every time I visit there is something new to explore or learn about this vast country.

How did you decide to pursue an EB1?

My husband and I had spoke about moving to the USA for many years and we had been to see many US Immigration Lawyers about different visas and we never felt we got a positive response and we concluded that there really can’t be a route for us. Until we were on holiday in Florida and I was chatting about why can’t we get a visa and my husband said if we really want to make this happy we can so we decided while we were there we would try another couple of attorneys but received similar responses until we came across Chris M Ingram and his team. I had never thought about EB1 Visa I had always focused on H1-B, L1 or an E Investor visa. I had a long telephone call with Lindsey and she made me believe in myself and that this was possible and so the journey began in February 2016

What was your experience with the EB1 petition process?

I just focused on what the team at Chris Ingram had asked me to do. The team made it so easy to fulfill the EB1 Categories as we had an online system where we could just upload all our required paperwork and ask any questions where they were answered usually within 24 hours. We also paid for premium processing as I am not very patient when waiting on an outcome and we had our decision within 10 days, a great big yes!

What were some of the challenges you had to work on in the preparation of your case, for example evidence gathering?

Some of the challenges were trying to get a hold of my peers who were writing my recommendation letters and ensuring they knew exactly what was being asked of them. It also turned out to be fun as I actually got to catch up with my old mentors so there was a bonus. I believe the system and the checklist Chris and his team gives you is a thorough step-by-step guide on how to gather the evidence so I felt this part was straight forward.

What kind of relationship did/do you have Chris and his team?

I can’t praise these guys enough. They held my hand from start to finish and even when I had ridiculous questions they were there to help me! Nothing was too much trouble for them and I really can’t thank them enough.

What were you doing when you found out you were approved? What was your immediate reaction? How did/will you celebrate?

I was on a sales trip with work in Italy June 2016 and my husband called to tell me while I was in a museum in Turin. I had to sit down, as I really didn’t believe that we had been approved. I asked him to check and check and triple check he was inputting the correct reference number and sure as he was trying to tell me it was our application I was notified by USCIS via e-mail that I had been approved. I was in shock and I had to take a couple of days to really let it sink in…I still cant believe after all these years our dreams are about to be fulfilled and they aren’t a pipe dream anymore! We will celebrate by going out to our favorite Italian restaurant (one we will miss when we move to the USA!)

What are you looking forward to most about moving to the US?

New opportunities, new cultures, meeting new people and new geography to explore.

What will you miss the most about your home country?

Friends and family and my hairdresser!!!! But technology and travel are amazing and the world is not such a big place anymore.

What advice would you give to any immigrant considering an EB1 or who is already in the process?

If this is really what you want you can get there. Believe in yourself and your ability, that is key. Please, please use an attorney, don’t do it yourself and I say that with conviction. I can highly recommend Chris M. Ingram and the team. The way Lindsey and the team prepared the case was second to none and I could not have prepared an application to that level. It was so professionally put together.
