National Interest Waiver (NIW) Video Presentation Series – Recognition

Welcome to our National Interest Waiver (NIW) video presentation. In this section we’re going to continue our review of the seven NIW requirements. Ok – let’s get started.

 Recognition

6. Recognition for your achievements and significant contributions to your industry or field by your peers, government entities, professional or business organizations

Recognition – Here wording says ‘recognition for your achievements and significant contribution to your industry or field by your peers, government entities, professional or business organizations’. Whilst the regulations do not stipulate the winning of any awards, awards are nonetheless by far the most objective way to demonstrate widespread recognition for your achievements. Even being nominated for an award is evidence of widespread recognition; as to be nominated is to be recognized amongst an elite group.

Published material about any breakthroughs you have made in your field would also be persuasive since published material in distinguished journals talking about your work and its significance is very strong, unbiased evidence in your favor.

Peer citations about your work are also evidence of the significance of your contributions if others are citing your work in theirs. Perhaps the least persuasive of evidence would be testimonial letters from others practitioners in the field. US Immigration may take the view that its easy to get colleagues sing your praises in writing in a totally biased way and thus less weight will be given to mere testimonial letters unless those letters can be corroborated with some outside impartial evidence, such as a report that supports the claims in the testimonial letter. Other supporting evidence might be awards, peer review citations, published articles about your advancements, etc.

Again, our goal will be to craft the evidence in such a way to sustain our narrative that the work you have done in the past will be of substantial benefit to the National Interests of America should you be given the opportunity.
