Bringing Your Skills to the United States: Many of our clients have developed skills in their home countries and are looking for a way to use them in the United States without having to find an employer to sponsor them, or getting stuck in a 9-5 job. One way is a US Investment Visa, like the E2 Treaty Investor visa. When Celia and Jonas heard that the E2 Visa Requirements meant all they had to do to come to the US was start a business, they were excited because starting a business was the only reason they wanted to come to the US in the first place. We were able to help them with their E2 Visa Application, and now they have an office in Hollywood, an online business and are proud E2 Visa Holders, wow! You can read more of their story, in their own words, below.

Tell me about where you are from and a little bit about your career and what you do.

We’re a young couple from Copenhagen, Denmark. We have both been working in online marketing for years, which allowed us to travel the world and work from anywhere. Jonas has primarily been working with SEO and content marketing, while Celia has been focusing on blogging, social media, digital design and photography.

Have you ever lived in the US before? If so, under what circumstances? If not, what aroused your interest in a move to the US?

Both of us have lived in the US for at shorter amount of time. Jonas studied in San Diego at SDSU for one semester as a part of his Master’s degree. And Celia lived in San Francisco for almost four months. We both love California and the US in general, we love how open people are here, how “easy” it is to live here (shops are always open, you can drive everywhere) and we find the American market full of possibilities. And nothing beats the nature here in the US!

How did you decide to pursue an E2 Visa?

We have always wanted to move to the US and the E2 Treaty Investor visa seemed to be the best fit for us. After working for ourselves for many years, the idea of working a 9-5 job with no freedom was not at all appealing to us, so the idea of starting our own company here in the US and using the skills we’ve improved over the years was really an amazing opportunity for us.

What was your experience with the E2 petition process?

It is harder than it seems and stressful because you are not certain of what the future brings. There are a lot of documents you need to collect but the Law Offices of Chris M. Ingram helps you every step of the way and I think it would be almost impossible without them.

What were some of the challenges you had to work on in the preparation of your case, for example evidence gathering?

When you start a business in the US there definitely is a lot of bureaucracy that can be tiresome. Many obstacles occurred because of problems identifying us since we didn’t have a Social Security Number – but we couldn’t get one before we had the visa. At times it seemed contradicting and stressful.

What kind of relationship did/do you have Chris and his team?

We worked mainly with Jeremy and Matthew on our E2 Visa Application and had a great relationship with both of them. We were so thankful that we could always call or email them for E2 Visa Help and receive a very fast response. And we were always taken very seriously and treated nicely even when we had stupid questions.

What were you doing when you found out you were approved? What was your immediate reaction? How did/will you celebrate?

We were told immediately after our visa interview at the Embassy that we had been approved for 5 years. It was a huge relief and we were so happy. We bought typical Danish pastries and celebrated by eating them while contacting our families and friends.

What are you looking forward to most about moving to the US?

Starting up our business in the US and beginning our daily lives there. We’re looking forwards to many hikes in the beautiful mountains around LA, the weather and amazing food. Also all the business possibilities and the great people we will meet.

What will you miss the most about your home country?

Our family and closest friends but we hope that they will visit us often. We will also miss some of the food and the amazing tap water! Celia will miss licorice like crazy!

What E2 Visa Advice would you give to any immigrant considering an E2 or who is already in the process?

Start by opening a bank account in the US. It’s easy and super fast and it will make your life so much easier to make business deals and make investments in the US. We were allowed to open a bank account in Bank of America with our passports and an international credit card.

We would never encourage anybody to do it without Chris M Ingram and his team.
