Video Transcript – DS 160 – Getting Started: Tutorial Guide Part 2 of 12
Welcome to Part 2 of our Form DS-160 video series. We’re excited to walk you through this comprehensive guide and hope you find it both helpful and easy to follow.
Let’s start by going to the following website to get to the home page for the DS-160.
https://ceac.state.gov/GenNIV/Default.aspx
You can also Google the term DS-160 and find the link that way.
When you get to the link, the page will look like this:
As you review this page, you will notice that in addition to a link for the DS-160 itself, there is also a link for some Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs). We’d recommend that you download a copy of these FAQs and give them a careful read. Remember, the key to successfully completing the DS-160 yourself comes down to how much preparation you do in advance, before you even start filling it out online.
Once you have printed out your FAQs and studied them, you’ll begin to have a better understanding of the type of questions and issues others have faced. This way, you can prepare your information effectively.
Before starting your DS-160 application, have the following documents ready:
- Valid Passport (Must be valid for at least six months beyond your intended stay in the U.S.)
- Recent Digital Photograph (Meeting U.S. visa photo requirements)
- Travel Itinerary (If available)
- Previous U.S. Visa Information (If applicable)
- Social Media Handles (Details of your social media accounts used in the last five years)
- Employment or School Details (Employer name, address, and job position or school name and details)
Access the DS-160 Website
Go to the official Consular Electronic Application Center (CEAC) website at ceac.state.gov
Before you can get started, you will need to first click on the Drop Window prompting you to “Select a location where you will be applying for this visa.” This means you have to state which American Consulate office you will be filing your case at.
In this example, we’ll be filing in England, London.
Select the U.S. Embassy or Consulate in the country where you’ll apply for the visa.
Once you have selected the country where you’d like to file your form DS-160, you can select the “Start an Application” option and note down your Application ID. You’ll need this to retrieve your form if you exit before completion.
In the next presentation, we’ll show you how to create your own DS-160 file and begin entering your information.
