Tell me about where you are from and a little bit about what you do?
My name is Shelley Wegner, and I am a Canadian individual who has devoted my professional career to supporting children, adolescents, and young people who face adversity due to circumstances such as limited opportunities or health and educational limitations. I have designed programs to facilitate their success in education, the workplace, and the community. I am committed to continuously addressing the marginalized population and persistently advocating for their interests.
Why do you want to live in America? What’s so special about America?
Throughout history, the United States of America has consistently served as a symbol of hope and inspiration for countless individuals who find themselves confronted with difficult circumstances. The United States demonstrates a strong inclination and empathy towards tackling the increasingly prevalent lack of initiatives aimed at addressing the pressing issues of homelessness, despair, addiction, and youth displacement within American society. The United States of America has historically served as a symbol of liberty and opportunity, persisting in its role as a haven for individuals seeking refuge and a better life.
What was your visa choice and how did you come to that decision?
The topic of discussion pertains to the EB2 National Interest Waiver. I have devoted my life to transforming the societal perception within my country, wherein many populations were commonly regarded as disadvantaged or burdensome, into one where they are recognized as productive and contributing members. The process of effecting change encompassed a considerable span of time, during which legislative measures, policy revisions, and societal perspectives underwent transformation. Ultimately, my endeavors yielded success. When the opportunity to bring that level of accomplishment to the United States was presented to me, I did not hesitate.
How would you describe your experience in working with us?
Collaborating with Chris and his team, especially my caseworker Judith, proved to be the most advantageous choice. As a single mother, the team collaborated tirelessly to ensure the achievement of a successful application. They possess qualities that include deliberation, compassion, and knowledge. Furthermore, they always made themselves available to answer any questions or address any concerns I had.
What were some of the evidence challenges you had to work on in the preparation of your case?
The team led by Chris specified the prerequisites for my success, encompassing a comprehensive record of my professional experience spanning over two decades, notable achievements, and educational background, all serving as substantiation for the National Interest Waiver (NIW) application. The primary factor that I believe may contributed to the lack of support for a NIW was the expectation of education. Several people held the opinion that my educational background was insufficient to substantiate my arguments. Chris believed that I possessed compelling evidence and was going to achieve success. It is imperative to place trust in the instructions that are provided and diligently accomplish the substantial undertaking within the designated timeframe.
What were you doing when you found out you were approved? What was your immediate reaction? How did/will you celebrate?
We were requested to participate in an interview, involving both my children and myself. The personnel at the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) demonstrated exceptional professionalism and granted us approval during the interview process. Our exhilaration at learning our green cards were approved, after waiting through the Covid shutdown (when we submitted it) is unforgettable. I think we experienced a bit of disbelief for the first few minutes. We planned a special trip for over the summer.
Would you recommend your family and friends and why?
Yes, I would. The winning combination of knowledge, compassion, and a positive attitude contributed to the success of our green cards. Chris had faith in both me and the significant contribution I made to my country. Despite the skepticism of others, he recognized my exceptional qualifications as an applicant. This ability stems from a combination of instinct, insight, and knowledge that is not possessed by every lawyer, in fact very few have it. However, Chris and his team undeniably possess these skills.
