EB5 Green Card Part 3 – EB5 Regional Center investing of $500K
Welcome to the Law Offices of Chris M. Ingram. We are delighted that you have joined us for Part 3 in our video presentation series on the EB5 Investment Based Green Card. We will be discussing the requirements and the benefits of making a $500,000 investment into a Federally Designated EB5 Regional Center or FDRC. Ok – let’s get started.
What is an FDRC?
A Federally Designated Regional Center is a public or private economic enterprise that has been pre-approved by US Immigration to accept EB5 investments from alien entrepreneurs seeking an EB5 Green Card.
So, for example, let’s say there is a company that wants to raise 30 million dollars to build a Medical Center to treat cancer patients. The company may be able to raise 20 million on its own with private capital and bank support, but they still may need to bring on other investors from overseas. So, in this case they would apply to the Department of Homeland Security for permission to be granted Federally Designated Regional Center status. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) would check out the enterprise and ensure that the company can meet all of the DHS’ strict compliance requirements. Once the company has meet all of the stipulations it will receive the prestigious designation of being an approved FDRC.
With FDRC status the company can now seek overseas investors and those who invest into this enterprise will be given the opportunity to apply for green card status as a “reward” for investing into the US economy.
Making the $500,000 Investment in an EB5 Regional Center
Once you have selected the FDRC where you will be making your investment you will then be required to transfer the funds into an escrow account. Your monies will be held safe until the Department of Homeland Security has approved your application.
The DHS will also want to verify that the $500K came from a legitimate source. In other words, the source of the investment must not be part of any money-laundering scheme.
What Are the Main Benefits of Investing in a FDRC?
There are three crucial benefits to choosing an FDRC:
- Because the Regional Center has been pre-approved by US Immigration, you will not have to go through the stressful process of making sure that your investment can meet all of the EB5 requirements,
- Because US Immigration has already decided that the Regional Center will promote economic growth you will not be personally required to prove that at least ten new jobs will be created.
- Because the Regional Center is already an ongoing, independently managed enterprise, US Immigration will not require you to have any day-to-day involvement in the enterprise beyond your investment. In essence you will be a stakeholder in the Regional Center.
How Do I Get Started?
We have relationships with various FDRCs and we would be happy to help you find the right Regional Center.
Ok – In the next presentation we’ll discuss how start your own business in an ‘Area of High Unemployment’ also known as a ‘Targeted Employment Area’. Thank you for joining us and we hope you enjoyed this presentation.
